Enemies of Rivers desperate to frustrate me – Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said that the state’s fervent adversaries have tried everything to prevent his administration from carrying out its duties.

Speaking at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt, to members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and Standing Committee officials, he made this claim.

He claimed that the state’s opposition parties made strong attempts to undermine his administration’s resolve to provide the people with high-quality services and sound governance at every turn.

The governor made it clear that unless a serious private sector investor chooses to commit resources to the project under a clearly defined private public partnership arrangement, the current administration will not pursue the completion of the monorail project started by the Chibuike Amaechi-led government.

Fubara emphasized that he would like to be remembered for more than just his signature road projects, like the construction of legacy bridges and flyovers. He also wanted to be remembered for his long-lasting influence on the development of human capital and other important infrastructure projects that would close the state’s gaps in healthcare and education.

Governor Fubara enumerated attempts to undermine the state’s governance process, citing the covert requests made to a few notable figures and speakers invited to the recently concluded Rivers Economic and Investment Summit to refrain from collaborating with his administration or taking part in the initiatives aimed at repositioning the state for significant investments and forward-thinking economic revitalization.

He remarked that in order to honor the government and completely engage in the event, some of the speakers and guests ought to have shown guts.

The governor also brought to the attention of the editors attempts to thwart the resuscitation and completion of the Port Harcourt International Automobile Spare Parts Trading and Commercial Center, which was started approximately a month ago at Iriebe in Elelenwo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. These attempts involved persuading the previous contractors, who had withdrawn from the project because they could not secure funding, to file a lawsuit against the state government in an attempt to derail the project.
