The Super Eagles’ beleaguered coach, Finidi George, has claimed that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has not given him any assistance.

This is despite the fact that he was cited as saying that it was hard to punish certain athletes who are associated with certain “big men.”

He made these remarks during a meeting with Sports Minister John Enoh in Abuja with NFF chieftains to discuss the Super Eagles’ dismal 2026 World Cup campaign. In Uyo, they held South Africa to a 1-1 draw before being stunned 2-1 in Abidjan by lowly Benin.

In order to emphasize his thesis that the best players in Nigeria are not entirely dedicated to the Super Eagles, Finidi also featured Victor Osimhen, the football player’s poster child, in his campaign.

Osimhen’s stated excuse for missing the two crucial World Cup qualifiers was that he had been hurt and would be out for four weeks.

According to Finidi, the Napoli striker may have still made it to these games, as reported by The Nation.

“The coach went on to say that it appears that Osimhen chooses the games he plays for Nigeria and he (Finidi) cannot beg him to play for his country.”

The former Enyimba coach expressed his disappointment with the players’ casual approach to training camp ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, as well as his lamentation at the team’s entire breakdown of discipline.

He claimed that a number of these players had the support of influential NFF Board members, and that it was getting harder and harder to ban them since he was frequently informed that a particular player “belonged” to a certain “big man.”

According to SaharaReporters, Nigerians demanded that Finidi be fired following his appalling results in the games he was in charge of.
