Bandits kill university lecturer, abduct two children, others in Katsina

Dr. Tiri Gyang, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State, was assassinated by bandits.

The nighttime raid in the school neighborhood also resulted in the kidnapping of two of his children and two additional women.

Dr. Gyang, who passed away, served as the University’s Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.

According to sources, the bandits fired bullets at around 1:00 am when they broke into his home at Low-cost Quarters, which is located beside Comprehensive Hospital in Dutsinma.

We heard gunshots just after one in the morning. The robbers appeared to be numerous. Later on, we found out that Dr. Tiri had been murdered and his two kids had been taken. According to a source, his remains have been sent to a mortuary in Katsina.

Calls to the FUDMA Public Relations Officer have not yet been returned, but university employees have verified the occurrence.

A few people posted about the incident on social media. In addition, a number of students grieved for the deceased on social media.

Ahmed Jafar Waziri said, “This is very sad news. Dr. Tiri was assassinated by bandits, who also abducted his family. At 11:30 p.m. yesterday, he was the last person to call me regarding problems in his faculty. Our scheduled meeting time for today was 8 AM in my office.

“This loss has a profound impact on the Dutsinma communities and the university.”

In part, Comrade Yahaya Salisu Aba, President of the FUDMA Chapter of the National Association of Agricultural Students, said on Facebook in a condolence message:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved father, mentor, and role model in person Of Dr Tiri Gyana, of the Department of Agricultural Economics.

“We know that no words can truly express the grief and sorrow you are feeling right now. But the entire FOA and NAAS FUDMA Chapter wants you to know that we are here for you and care about you for this great loss.

“We have lost someone special, and we are truly sorry for the loss. Dr Tiri was a special person, jovial, Gentle to the Faculty and we pray his light will always shine on, to the family, you are not alone and we all care about you deeply.”
