The Ekpuke Eto age grade has been instructed by the Ehugbo Community in Ebonyi State to enforce the ban on the sale and eating of cow meat in the Eke market.

The General Assembly of the community, which consists of people from different associations and age groups, also formed an enforcement team to confiscate and destroy any cow meat that was discovered in the market.

BET NEWS learned that the decision was made at the community gathering that took place over the weekend in the Okpoota village square in the Amaizu community.

The age groups were assigned the responsibility of interacting with other communities, such as Unwana, in order to stop them from housing cow dealers.

During the meeting, Chief Patrick Oko Chukwu, the Ezeogo-elect, stressed that the age grades are the body that makes decisions and cautioned against going against the group’s choice.

Four years ago, tensions with herders led to the first implementation of the prohibition, which caused farmers to flee their holdings.
